Mallorca! Our first stop today was a lunch spot, Es Badulake, tucked away on a less busy street in Old Town. It's a small place with only one table but luckily everyone else was getting food to go. They have a menu with a ton of different meat and vegetarian sandwich options. I had the "Alcapone", and Jay had the "Ironna".
The city was calling to us, so we quickly checked into Hotel Continental and went out to see as much as we could. One of the first buildings that caught my eye was the 15th century Merchants' Guild.
Passeig del Born is a scenic avenue lined with shops and restaurants, and by the end of the day, lots and lots of tourists.
We wanted to keep the tours to a minimum so chose the Palma Cathedral as our one to see. The cathedral was built between the 12th and 16th centuries and is massive, at 121 metres long and 55 metres wide.
The organ is from 1789 and designed by Pere Josep Bosch.
This old dental clinic is one of the most scenic buildings in Palma and was quite often lined with tourists taking pictures. I was finally able to snag one with less people standing in the way. It was designed by Forteza Rey in the early 1900s.
Across from the Forteza Rey building is a cute cafe, Le Bon Vivre. We stopped in and had freshly squeezed Mallorcan orange juice.
The canal Torrente de Sa Riera runs along side the old town walls and is still beautiful despite being almost dried up in some places. We were told the water is typically much higher.
On the way back to the hotel we found a park meant for us, a park for Old People to exercise! We took a lap around it before heading back to the hotel for the evening.
By heading back to the hotel I mean stopping at a brewpub first. We grabbed a local beer at Cerveseria Tramuntana and called it a day. We will be renting a car and going to the mountains tomorrow for a hike.
