One of the top-rated attractions on the island is the historic train ride from Palma to the town of Sóller, where they have a Saturday market. We left around 10am, and thankfully got a few pics of the train before it got full. It was completely sold out and packed.
The ride was a lot of fun. Although it's only a few miles, it takes about an hour and a half due to the speed. There were some incredible views of the mountains and farms along the way.
Once you arrive in Sóller you quickly notice there are more tourists than what is comfortable for such a small town.
At one of the market stalls we got to try Coca de Trampo, the Mallorcan pizza. The crust tastes more like shortbread (closest description I can think of) and was delicious!
Sóller is a beautiful small town and looks like the exact type of place we'd love to spend a quiet weekend if it was years ago before tourists took it over.
The next step of the train ride is catching a tram to the beach for a couple of hours to have lunch and see a museum.
Once we arrived at the Port, we grabbed lunch and drinks at Espiritu libre and then walked down the beach for an hour.
There was not a lot else to do in the port so we took the tram back to Sóller and then the train back to Palma. Although it was ridiculously touristy, it was still a great day!
When we got back to Palma late in the afternoon, we went out to explore more of Old Town since it's our last day here. The historic center is much bigger than what I was expecting and I'm still not sure we got to see everything. A bookstore with oddly specific hours (open one day a week for three hours?) wasn't open during those three hours so that's another miss for bookstores! We did find a shop selling Mallorcan "devils" and picked up a cute one with red horns.
Mallorca was a blast and now we head to Valencia tomorrow!
