Spain! Day 12: Barcelona

I love our newest hotel's neighborhood. (The choice of hotel was easy, since it was literally the last room available in the entire city!) We're next door to the Hospital de Sant Pau, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a short walk south is La Sagrada Familia. I think we're just going to count ourselves lucky to see the outside of the cathedral and not try to book tickets for the inside. The amount of tourists waiting to get in is mind-boggling. Everything Gaudi-related is sold out in advance and the price of tickets is insane.

This is the Saturday antique market I have been waiting for! It was so much fun and loaded with junk in every direction. If I wasn't flying home, I'd probably have loaded up with lamps and paintings. About half of the market is newer stuff similar to modern flea markets in the US, but there were plenty of antiques!

Our next stop was also another one high on the list: La Manual Alpargatera, a shoe store that has been making espadrilles in-house since the 1940s! Gorgeous, high quality, hand-crafted shoes. Jay purchased a white pair with blue stripes. And for handmade, artisan shoes, they're super affordable, only about $35 a pair.

After dinner we stopped in a little bar from the 1930s that still keeps the retro vibe going. And look! I convinced Jay to stop shaving again!

Today we both received the next Fitbit badge! 40k steps in a day. Woohoo!

Tomorrow is the big Saint Jordi's Day book festival and we're super excited to finally attend it. We were planning on doing this for Jay's 40th the year the world went into lockdown due to COVID.
